Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

The primary function of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is to saturate red blood cells with oxygen and increase the amount of free oxygen in your blood. Free oxygen is additional oxygen in the bloodstream not attached to red blood cells. This oxygen, under hyperbaric pressure, can be diffused into tissues with low blood supply. Tissues with low blood supply heal slowly and are a source of chronic or recurring injuries. The tissues in your body need oxygen to function, and if they become injured or infected, they need even more to survive and heal.

During the treatment you are given concentrated oxygen to breathe in a pressurized environment. This allows your blood to fill with enough oxygen that the oxygen is able to reach all areas of your body with enough oxygen to heal damaged tissues. This includes reaching areas that were previously unreachable by oxygen. This is extremely beneficial to overall health and is used to aid many acute and chronic symptoms.

What happens in an HBOT appointment?

In an HBOT session you will enter an inflatable chamber, that depending on the unit you schedule, has either a reclining chair or mat for laying down. The recliner style unit is wheelchair accessible. You will get into the chamber that will then be securely zipped closed.  Inside the chamber you will be wearing an oxygen mask or nasal canula to receive the concentrated oxygen. The chamber will be filled with air as the environment becomes pressurized. Once it is at full size, many are surprised by just how roomy it feels. It is recommended you enjoy the session by reading, meditating or sleeping. Please bring anything you want to do in the chamber with you, but it is best to stick to non digital items or a small electronic. If you would like to have water during the session, please bring a water bottle with a screw and make sure it doesn't leak.
