Adrenal Dysfunctions

“The higher your energy level, the more efficient your body. The more efficient your body, the better you feel,

and the more you will use your talent to produce outstanding results.”

– Anthony Robbins

Adrenal fatigue is a major metabolic deal-breaker because it directly effects the state of the nervous system and whether you are able to physiologically heal.

The adrenal gland produces several hormones essential for a healthy body. Adrenalin is a stress hormone that creates alertness, focus, and helps push the body to limits of what we are truly capable of accomplishing. Cortisol is the hormone of stability and maintains the body in prolonged stress. It is a rhythmic hormone with the major purpose of maintaining blood sugar control, estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone balance. Cortisol, along with melatonin, sets the sleep cycle. Aldosterone is the third major hormone of the adrenals and serves the very important purpose of maintaining adequate blood pressure regulation.

A major problem with the standard medical assessment is the failure to address low adrenal function. This is often the person who has normal to low cholesterol, low blood pressure, and low blood sugar. From all standard testing they look like the picture of health except for the fact that they don’t feel like the picture of health. This person often gets lightheaded upon standing. They also seem to have a hard time refraining from sugar and caffeine, they can’t handle going too long without eating or their mood completely changes. They tend to have a poor sleep pattern and will often wake up in the middle of the night alert.

Basic strategies for stabilizing the adrenal hormones:

  • Eat a protein based breakfast
  • Refrain from sugar and carbs after dinner
  • Exercise in the morning
  • Go to bed at a normal hour
  • Eat something every 3-4 hours
